Admiral Brown Museum

Mayo native Admiral William Brown is worshipped in Argentina, the country he helped create with famous victories over Spanish and Brazilian fleets, usually against overwhelming odds. Over 1,000 streets, 400 statues, several towns and a major city bear his name in his adopted land.
 
The Admiral Brown Society is a voluntary, non-profit-making organisation based in Foxford, Co. Mayo - the birthplace of the admiral. It is dedicated to ensuring that his extraordinary legacy and life story - which bonds together Ireland and Argentina - will not be forgotten.

Michael Davitt Museum

Straide, Co. Mayo
Explore the story of Michael Davitt, Ireland’s greatest patriot and the most influential international Irishman of the 19th Century. The Michael Davitt Museum collection is housed in a magnificently restored pre-penal church in the picturesque village of Straide, Co. Mayo. It adjoins Straide Friary, a 13th Century Norman structure which contains some of the finest medieval sculpture on the island of Ireland.
 
Opening hours: March to September 7 days 9.30am - 5.30pm and October to February Monday to Saturday 9.30am – 4.30pm. Admission: €8 per adult €3 per child. Under 5 go free. Visitors to the museum will receive a free pass to the Céide Fields Visitor Centre in North Mayo.
